THE POWER TO CREATE MORE BRIGHTNESS

Do you know the difference between the existing IPS e.max Ceram Dentin/Incisal materials and the new IPS e.max Ceram Power Dentin and Power Incisal range? You don’t? Then read on!

So, what’s the difference?

To cut it short: the new IPS e.max Ceram “Power Dentin” and “Power Incisal” materials give you more brightness, as the two samples below show

Can you see the difference?

Correct! On the left, you see “IPS e.max Ceram Dentin A3” and on the right you see “IPS e.max Ceram Power Dentin A3”. The difference in brightness is clearly noticeable. The shade and opacity have been especially adjusted to increase the brightness of the “Power Dentin” and “Power Incisal” materials.  These adjustments have been achieved with a targeted admixture of bright pigments and an increase in the material’s opacity. The advantage: a natural level of brightness can be achieved even in thin layer thicknesses. This is particularly useful in the cut-back technique.

Why did we develop the new “Power Dentin” and “Power Incisal” materials?

The easy answer is: the times are changing! When we first developed IPS e.max Ceram several years ago, the all-ceramic framework materials used at the time were very opaque. This meant that they reflected large amounts of light. The shades of the IPS e.max Ceram materials were matched precisely to these opaque framework materials. At the time we could not have foreseen that the trend would evolve towards increasingly more translucent framework materials. This has led to frameworks that reflect less light. Today, translucent frameworks are a matter of fact. It goes without saying that Ivoclar Vivadent wants to offer its customers an ideal solution that matches these translucent frameworks and so we developed IPS e.max Ceram Power Dentin and Power Incisal

And that is what the difference looks like in real life!

So far so good – but when and where can I use these new materials?

The nice thing is: The Power materials offer an incredibly vast range of application possibilities, for example:

    • Complete and partial veneering of translucent ZrO2 and LS2 framework materials to achieve a natural level of brightness;
    • Complete and partial veneering of opaque ZrO2 and LS2 framework materials to achieve a heightened level of brightness;
    • Mixing with existing dentin and incisal materials to achieve a subtle increase in brightness;
    • Combining with existing dentin materials in the layering technique to increase the brightness in selected areas;
    • Combining with existing incisal materials to provide the incisal area with more individuality and a more nuanced play of shades;
    • and several other application possibilities…

The options are virtually unlimited and unbeatable in combination with the existing Dentin/Incisal materials.
